I Have a Dream

On April 4, 2018, it was the 50th anniversary Martin Luther King's assassination. To keep his Dream alive, 50 identical statues were placed from Memphis to Amsterdam on locations that refer to slavery and places that emphasize the importance to end racism and fight for equality, regardless of gender, religion and race. History may not be forgotten.

Black Lives Matter

A brilliant second intervention. After the statue was beheaded while standing next to the National Slavery Monument in Amsterdam in 2018, it was brought to the Artistic Repair Shop in the Keti Koti month (celebrating the abolition of slavery, June 2020). Artist Oscar Peters created this excellent and touching new statue, in the spirit of the Back Lives Matter protests, after the death by police violence of George Floyd, May 25, 2020. More statues got vandalized, read more.
