Black Heritage Tours

Jennifer Tosch is founder and CEO of Black Heritage Tours with which she creates awareness of Amsterdam's black heritage. Tosch is a Surinamese-American who grew up in San Francisco and Oakland and came to Amsterdam for a postcolonial history course, given by the Black Europe Summer School (BESS).  She encountered a void regarding positive narratives about the presence and contributions of the African Diaspora in the Netherlands. That's why she founded Black Heritage Tours in  2013. The tours inform, inspire and educate, and thanks to its succes Black Heritage Tours now are also organized in Brussels, Belgium and New York State. The Amsterdam Slavery Heritage Guide (must read!), published by LM Publishers, was a helpful resource for this Martin Luther King memorial project. Another must read is Dutch New York Histories, connecting African, Native American and Slavery Heritage. Also read The Netherlands Slavery Heritage Guide
